Audiophile Me

Audiophile Me

I’ve never considered my an audiophile–ever. Sure, I enjoyed listening to music but I was pretty content with just about anything with speakers. Recently, I’ve been really interested in good quality sound.
So, went ahead and spent a little bit on audio gear for my computer. A decent headphone and sound card it was then!

Education update

Passed and got my COMPTIA Network+ Certificate in the mail. I don’t know why they sent me another ID that has Network+ on it only. Would have been a lot better if they sent the card with an updated list of someone’s qualifications. Not that I’m going to be flashing the badge to anyone–

“Step aside, people, technician in the house. What seems to be the problem? Uhuh. Blue Screen you said? And before that where you having any network issues? Oh really. No DSL light huh. Tsk.”

I mean come on, please. LOL. Suddenly I have an image of someone with a Cisco CCIE Security come in with his bigger badder badge.

*flash badge*
“CCIE–we’ll take it from here. CCNP Jones here will escort you for debriefing. You are required to hand over anything relevant to this investigation. We expect your full cooperation.”

LOL.

It wasn’t easy studying for stuff you pretty much know about already.  It’s always during exams that you find out that you google terminology a LOT more than you’d care to admit.  Since Google isn’t exactly allowed during exams then I’ve had to put read a whole book–which is not really fun.  It feels redundant but you know you still need it.

Something that made my study a lot easier was watching FREE videos from Professor Messer. He offers free training videos for Network+ (and A+). Concise and informative–just what you need. It doesn’t substitute the details of a real book but helps remind you of “key” pointers to look out for during the exam. I wish I’d found out about him back when I was on my A+, it would’ve made studying much much LESS boring!

If you’re looking to take up COMPTIA A+ and Network+, I highly recommend . It’s free right–why not?

To the elitist snobs, talk to the hand. Read between the lines. Yeah, that’s right.

FreeNAS Project Complete

FreeNAS Project Complete

A long overdue update: FreeNAS Project is complete. The box has been running for over a month now, I think. Thanks to all the people who’ve donated!

Final Specs:

Pentium 4 Processor
Asus something motherboard
1GB DDR
1TB Seagate SATA
500GB Seagate SATA
Acer 250W PSU
Gigabit NIC

Running a Windows Home Server on it to share all my media to all devices in the house. Due to running a Pentium 4 processor, I originally thought that it would have a tremendous amount of power usage. As it turns out, it’s no more power hungry than a laptop charger–okay, that’s a little extreme..

Steam and Mac

Steam and Mac

Just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock, Steam is now on Macs.  I stayed up a bit late last night waiting for the client but at 4:00am had to give up.  It’s not easy when you’re from the future (joke: NZ is +12GMT).

It’s installed now and all updates are complete.  I’m hoping that most of the games that I’ve already bought will be available for OSX too.  I wouldn’t be too fussed if they’re not.  The box clearly stated PC Game when I originally bought them.  I don’t understand why a lot seem to think that just because Steam’s opened up the OSX Pandora’s Box then they’re fully demand that their games be in Steam Mac Client.

Installing Portal (Free).  This should be fun.
